Wool Care Guide — HACOY
Wool is the smartest fibre on the planet: temperature-regulating, naturally antibacterial, self-refreshing. Treat it well and a HACOY wool piece becomes a lifetime wardrobe staple.
You will need: wool-specific detergent, clean towels, cedar blocks or lavender.
Step 1: Air out between wears
Wool self-cleans. After wearing, hang the piece in a well-ventilated space (ideally outdoors, out of direct sun) for 12–24 hours. You will rarely need to wash wool — airing is usually enough.
Step 2: Spot clean stains immediately
For a small mark, dab with a clean cloth dipped in cold water. Work from the outside of the stain inward. For oily stains, sprinkle with talc or cornstarch, leave 2 hours, then brush off.
Step 3: Hand wash cold or dry clean for a full refresh
When a full wash is needed, use cold water and a wool-specific detergent. Swish gently; do not rub or wring. Alternatively, use a specialist dry cleaner experienced with wool.
Step 4: Dry flat, reshape while damp
Press excess water out with a towel. Reshape the piece to its original dimensions and dry flat on a clean towel. Never hang wet wool — it stretches.
Step 5: Store with cedar, not mothballs
Off-season, store clean wool folded with cedar blocks or lavender sachets. Mothballs are chemically harsh and leave a lingering smell. Check stored wool every 2–3 months.
