Silk Care Guide — HACOY

Silk is sturdier than its reputation suggests, but it rewards a light touch. These steps keep your HACOY silk pieces soft, lustrous, and strong for decades.

You will need: pH-neutral silk detergent, two clean towels, iron with silk setting, padded hanger.

Step 1: Hand wash cold or dry clean

Fill a basin with cold water and a capful of silk-safe detergent (pH-neutral, no enzymes, no bleach). Swish the piece gently for 3–5 minutes. Avoid agitating. Dry cleaning works, but only at cleaners who specialise in delicate fabrics.

Step 2: Rinse and press — never wring

Rinse in cold water until the water runs clear. To remove excess water, lay the piece flat on a clean towel and press gently. Do not twist or wring — it breaks silk fibres.

Step 3: Dry flat, out of direct sunlight

Lay the piece on a fresh dry towel, reshape, and air dry. Sunlight yellows silk over time. Never put silk in a dryer.

Step 4: Iron low, from the reverse

Iron on the silk setting (low) while the piece is still slightly damp. Always iron from the reverse side to protect the surface sheen. A press cloth adds extra protection.

Step 5: Store on a padded hanger or folded

For items with structure (camisoles, slip dresses), use a padded hanger. For boxer shorts and flat pieces, fold with tissue between layers. Keep away from perfume and deodorant, which stain silk permanently.
